Summer Night Events at Kenrokuen & Kanazawa Castle

Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle open at night on special dates throughout summer. Whether you’re seeking cultural performances, peaceful nature walks, or a moment of calm under the stars, these events offer something truly memorable for all visitors.

Early Summer Light-Up

Date: June 7, 2025 (Saturday)
Time: 7:00 pm to 8:45 pm
Admission: Free during the Hyakumangoku Festival (June 6–8)
Highlight: Part of Kanazawa’s biggest annual festival!

On the night of the Hyakumangoku Parade, Kenrokuen Garden glows with soft lighting, offering a dreamy backdrop for festival-goers. The city comes alive with traditional performances, including the Hyakumangoku Dance Parade and torchlit Noh theatre.
Visit the garden during the day, then come back in the evening for a completely different atmosphere.

Firefly Viewing Nights

Dates: June 27–28 (Fri–Sat) and July 4–5 (Fri–Sat)
Time: 7:30 pm to 9:10 pm
Admission: Free
Entry Gates: Renchimon Gate, Kodatsuno Gate only

Even in the heart of the city, Kenrokuen remains a refuge for nature. On these quiet evenings, the garden is dimmed (not lit up) to protect the fireflies. Walk slowly through the garden, listen to the sounds of water and wind, and watch for tiny lights dancing in the dark.
Perfect for couples or families looking for a gentle, nature-filled night out.
